Mickey 17 2025
Kinda bad! Not, like, a disaster, but not much to recommend! The acting is pretty rough across the board, but Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo deserve special mention for their big swings and even bigger misses. Overly long. Not half as clever as I think it thought it was. Broad, toothless satire. Some decently funny bits. Enough adventurous, creative, bizarre, trademark Bong Joon Ho-iness to keep it from being boring, but… I can’t say there’s enough of that to give anyone reason to see it.

Between the Temples 2024
Very funny, very weird. LOVED the dynamic between Schwartzman and Kane. Didn’t love the end, or necessarily the way it flowed… maybe something was off in the pacing, or maybe it could’ve benefited from leaving a bit more material on the cutting room floor. Regardless, it’s a fun and interesting watch.

Lucky 2017
Lucky is a perfect film. It manages to be both hilarious and heartbreaking. Every performance is spot on, as is every line of dialogue. It’s deep and contemplative without being preachy or heavy-handed. Harry Dean Stanton is his typical wonderful self, conveying so much with so little. There’s not a moment wasted, not an ounce of fluff. It’s a movie that reminds you that great art doesn’t have to be big or flashy to completely bowl you over. I look forward to a lifetime of revisiting and recommending this beautiful film.

The Banshees of Inisherin 2022
Weird and wonderful. Very funny and very sad, imaginative and full of small touches that fill every scene with life. Feels like a tale the Brothers Grimm might’ve shelved because it was too dark and cynical. Terrific performances across the board. Beautiful photography. Surreal as it is, the root of the story is about the realest, most universal thing there is.
