Snowpiercer but better? Both are unsubtle and unrelenting with anti-capitalist themes, but what Mickey 17 excels at most is its comedic flair and sci-fi style. Plenty of hilarious moments and ridiculous situations that make this silly dystopian society feel surreal and unique enough in the realm of the space exploration trope. Robert Pattinson was obviously incredible but Mark Ruffalo was the cherry on top with his perfectly over the top performance. Bong Joon-Ho really is a master of making movies that feel artful yet enjoyable for everyone.

It's hard not to feel biased talking about this movie because of how much I adore Bob Dylan and how much the history of that era piques my interest. The film centers around the movements of the era and the sequence of events in Dylan's career rather than focusing on Bob Dylan as a character himself, and its dramatic effect is highly reliant on knowledge of his music or at least respect for the references. Went into this with an open mind because I’m a sucker for this genre of movies, but this just felt so damn standard I couldn’t get anything out of it. Phoned in performances across the board, generic plot with generic spy stuff, and no real suspense or action ever taking place sets this up for Soderbergh’s most forgettable yet for me. Will admit this was well shot though (boat scenes especially beautiful).

Carruth made this only 77 mins to make room for the necessary 30 mins of “Primer explained” videos after.

Seriously though talk about an idea that could flourish with a remake, the movie is obviously hindered by the kitchen scraps budget. Can’t imagine what Carruth could do with just 5 million dollars to really expand upon this film (and maybe give a bit more exposition along that way).

Well this was interesting to say the least. I didn't know what to expect from this, but I was still quite surprised. The story is like no other, and like the rest of Kubrick's films, is quite memorable and thought-provoking. We have a disgusting and psychedelic first act, followed by a mysterious and unique second act, and crazy and intense third act. This film doesn't stop with its suspenseful and weird tone, and is engaging from start to finish. The…
