    Maybe not quite as sophisticated as say The Thing but man oh man, John Carpenter just has the juice. That guy knew how to cook up a good time at the pictures

    A few bits of jankiness, especially in the first half (Martin Lawson is, uh, not entirely working for me) but once it's going it's really going. Generally a pretty charismatic ensemble. Tony Burton was my fave, love all his scenes. An all-timer shoot-out. A cracking score. John Carpenter!! He is that guy!!

    First off, the pacing is astounding. Three hours long and not one moment I felt I could run to the bathroom (I did anyway, I am me). This is good-ass filmmaking. Felt like I could barely breathe for the middle hour (in a satisfying way). Good acting, great score, looks great, moves great.
