    1. The experience of watching this in a room with groups of women of all ages was wonderful.

    This exploration of how childhood impacts one’s adulthood, was both tender, patient and incisive. 

    One thing i was always like about the ghibli movies is that they give space for silence and contemplation.  I found the silence particularly moving here as it let me think over the themes of the movie (of nostalgia, gendered and societal expectations, humans relationship to the environment) but also gave me a chance to reflect on my own childhood experience too.
