Queer 2024
This is one of those films where the final third is a completely different film to the first two thirds which are just a not-very-good film! Neither character was particularly compelling (and I am easily compelled) and the latter third was confusing and also disgusting and just unpleasant to watch? It felt like the director actually just wanted to make an “thought-provoking” artsy short film that would play on a loop in an art gallery and I wish he had…

Ode to My Father 2014
I can’t comment on the politic representation of this but this movie made me laugh and cry in equal parts, and taught me a little bit about a place and time period I know nothing about so for me it’s a winner.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy 2025
Romantic comedy? How about romantic tragedy? The DVD release should be accompanied by a maxi-pack of Kleenex ™️ I haven’t cried this much since Past Lives! Rope 1948
Oooh la la, this was a real pearl from the past! Very tense, quite funny, and extremely clever in its writing. This is based on a play and it totally grips you like a live action performance would. Each character has a specific role and plays it well, making an ensemble film that would probably do very well in ye old box office if it was released today. Crazy to think it was made in 1948! Also I just love Jimmy Stewart 😭😭😭
