The Lost Boys 1987
Was lucky to catch this on 35mm in theaters recently- and boy does it still slap. This movie is just so quintessentially 80s; and is a pioneering mashup of two of my favorite genres- horror and comedy.
The first 2 acts are fire as we follow Michael on his destructive 80s badboy bender all in the name of a girl he knows nothing about, and then watch his transformation into something... new. Very elevated by the ensemble cast- the character…

Blood Diamond 2006
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It's unfortunate that a movie about important human rights violations in Africa needed a focus on white characters to be made in 2006. Blood Diamond also (narrowly) avoids the tropes of white savorism since DiCaprio's character is only out to save himself and ultimately comes off as an antogonist. That being said, the awareness this movie brought to the atrocities of the Diamond trade is unparalleled, and the performances fom DiCaprio and Hounsou are fantastic.
