Gradually escalates from a dull and often tedious examination of mortality to something sophisticated and deeply moving. Was literally passing out throughout the first 45 minutes and would have checked out completely if not for Ershadi’s hauntingly beautiful central performance. Then the final conversation in the car had me riveted. And finally, when St. James Infirmary kicked in over that grainy footage of the soldiers frolicking in the grass, I just about started crying.
