One of the quintessential pieces of American pop culture. Kong and the rest of Skull Island's fauna feel more dynamic and alive than the key cast members. The Cowboys 1972
At its core, The Cowboys is an underdog coming-of-age story that uses a cattle drive to whip these young cowboys into cowmen (actual terminology from the movie). Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989
The most Bond-coded of the Indiana Jones series (sorry Temple of Doom!). Great message about faith in the material being a fallacy, especially in comparison to faith in the divine. Donovan always refers to the Grail in terms of material wealth, which clearly leads to his undoing in the film's third act. The shot of his Nazi pin being revealed in his ashes is so underspoken and effective. Just because he used the Nazis to his advantage doesn't make him better than them. Lots of fun, very silly. Maybe more conveniently plotted than I'd like but it comes together nicely in the end.
