    The superhero film for people who are sick of superhero films.

    The Batman is a fantastic, grounded, character-driven, crime drama. If this film is part of the DCU, it is the best movie in that universe. If not, its a fantastic stand-alone film.

    Music.
    A combination of minimalist combined with the gothic bombast you'd expect in a batman film. I thought those two things were diametrically opposed, but...... Michael Giacchino nailed it. The music was compelling and monolithic.

    Best film in the MCU. Best Spider-man film.

    This film had more heart, more character development, better score, better..... everything than the rest of the MCU. The humor was great and sincere, without being super 4th-wall-breaking. The music was..... ALMOST grandiose. If the film weren't so sincere the music would have been too much. But it walked knife's edge successfully.

    Started great, ended badly.

    As with the majority of films in the genre, Shang Chi had a pretty great start. However, each action sequence was weaker than the one before and each storybeat less focused.

    By the end of the film, nothing was the same. An entirely new story took over the end of the film, new villain, new good guys & bad guys, the characters had entirely new goals, etc. And the end fight were just two kaiju fighting eachother…
