    8 Mile is a mostly-successful piece of mythmaking chronicling the rise of Eminem -- excuse me, Bunny Rabbit -- from the post-industrial, racially-segregated urban dystopia of Detroit in the 90s. The performances, including Em's, are convincing, and if you have any investment in rap then this film can be truly thrilling.     The acting is atrocious, the effects look cheap, and the plot makes no sense, but despite that I enjoyed this movie. It's just so strange! With all of its bizarre details it's one of the most dreamlike movies I've ever seen, and I really love movies that are able to capture that dream quality. I can definitely see how this has become a cult classic.
