  Smile 2 is what happens when you cross a decent horror flick like the first Smile was with a psychological masterpiece like Black Swan. I'm not saying Smile 2 is on the level of Aronofsky's hit, but it's in the realm vibe wise. Smile 2 ends up all the better for it, and Naomi Scott nails it in the lead role. Good stuff from director Parker Finn. This guy is someone to keep an eye on.

  Speak No Evil 2022

  This is well crafted and paced, a smart piece that examines humans' capability to connect with strangers and how that can lead to disastrous consequences. Speak No Evil carries a setup that ends in places you don't see coming...until you do. Can't tell you much, just go check it out.
  Highly recommend.

  First really good Chinese crime flick I have watched in awhile. It has some dumb shit, but Yen and Lau have great chemistry here and watching their rise to the peak of the underworld is pretty engaging. Just a few complaints short of being epic.

  There are two ways to look at Hell House LLC. One is from the traditional critical point of view where--as it should be--everything worth criticizing is fair game. In that sense, Hell House LLC is typical found footage fare. The story, however, is actually kind of cool in that a Halloween haunted house production crew take up shop in a supposedly really haunted abandoned hotel.
