A sweet coming of age movie. Maisy Stella is an innate talent. Bonus points to the Canadian film which has Feist, Nelly Furtado and Andy Shauf on its soundtrack and a Bieber reference l.

Pretty much Dylan Wikipedia 101 so no great surprises.

Ed Norton was great as Daddy Seeger.

Timmy clearly loves Dylan and does a great job of his singing and mumbling too. Monica Barbaro as Baez shined but Elle Fanning's Sylvie gave the film such much needed heart.

Solid music performances all round and Boyd Holbrook's Johnny Cash was spot on.

20 years on from my first viewing, this is much more accessible than I remembered!

A fever dream masterpiece. 100% Lynch. It was really great to watch this after Lost Highway and Blue Velvet again and see the throughlines between them.

    Lost Highway

    ★★★★

Lynch sure did love nightclubs, musicians, singers, nobodies, outsiders, gangsters, dimly lit highways, going for a drive, ugly Hollywood houses, apartments and duplexes; red velvet, blue light, art deco, neon, hallways, dames, robes, suits, leather jackets, landlines, uncertainty, coercion, confusion, authority, bureaucracy, nightmares, dreams, smoke, slow mo, backwards sequences, guts, synths, hihats, jazz, dancing, Badalamenti, Reznor, Jack Nance.... RICHARD PRYOR!!?

"I don't know why people expect art to make sense. They accept the fact that life doesn't make sense."

Spending time inside Lynch's world is always so rewarding and deep reaching.

Balthazar Getty was shite in this one though.
