  I hate that this was marketed as a horror film because it’s not that in the least. This is a family drama with a supernatural twist and a good one at that. By the end my heart was on the floor.

  I found this to be a very compelling, well acted, well written movie up until the last 15 minutes. I really just did not jive with this ending and felt like it belonged in completely different film.

  Destined to be a body horror classic, THE SUBSTANCE is so much more than its gory bits. It knows it’s hitting you over the head with a message and that’s the point. Everything in this film feels heightened to the point where it’s almost satire. I felt like I was watching something out of a twilight zone episode told through the lens of Kubrick or Cronenberg (soooo many references).
