    Dirty Dancing

    ★★★★

    Quick Ups and Downs:

+ Sometimes you just need a sappy, cheerful, dancy, “all the good people win” ending to feel good about your day.

+ Swayze was a fucking nova, guys. Gone far too soon. He just commanded a screen.

    - The age gap is icky! I mean… how old is Johnny supposed to be? 25? And Baby is 17. I know it’s an old movie set in an even older time, but still.

    - Grandma Gilmore wasn’t given much to do here.

    OVERALL: Great!

+ It's another typical Bong Joon-Ho movie about classism and animal rights, this time set... IN SPACE. It's a really nice touch on his usual formula.

    - There are aspects of the movie that don't matter and probably should have…

    Midsommar

    ½

No movie aside from Fight Club has ever made me feel as much like the version I saw had to have been "broken" than Midsommar. I know many folks who think this movie is a wonder, and it causes me to question my own sanity to no end, because I found this movie to be a wreck on so very many levels.

I will copy the review I wrote in the immediate aftermath of watching Midsommar below for more in-depth…
