I enjoyed watching Joaquin Phoenix but I did not enjoy the movie.
Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favourite actors. He has given numerous performances deserving of an Oscar, and this is certainly one of them. However, his acting sits in an echelon above most other elements of the production (namely the plot and weak supporting characters). I feel the story could have been much richer if it was not bound to the comic book universe.
It’s a shame Joaquin didn’t receive his Oscar for The Master—a far superior film in all other respects.
