  Will make it short and sweet: Strong vision, gorgeously shot and conceived. It checks lots of boxes, but the best in this genre are so guided by aesthetic that they flatten the performances. Justice is one of the most promising young actors around, but is directed into something that feels one-note and missing the moment-to-moment discoveries that bring us along the journey to the greater metaphor. Let them play the characters reality, not the end of the movie.

  The tone is like a gothic mean girls with killer performances. Isn’t that enough? Fund her next movie now.

  The young director is so sure-handed in her storytelling even though plot that seems fertile camp soil. (See what I did there?)

  It’s thought-provoking, relatable and a window into the lives of these rich Malaysian girls. It’s so refreshingly unfussy intimate.
