Nomadland 2020
A standout film of 2020. Zhao's film is a timely addition to her suite of revisionist westerns, this time set in Nevada's colossal Amazon warehouses and in the shadow of company towns wiped off the map by the GFC. And while the 'economic ruthlessness' is largely backgrounded, this is a moving portrait of those caught at the fringes of modern America, the refugees of the last recession.
