    Avatar: The Way of Water

    ★★½

Well, boy was I pleased to have seen 'Avatar' a mere 24 hours before the sequel. I can't imagine how people who hadn't seen the original for years were able to follow the sequel. Unfortunately, the sequel doesn't live up to the (itself flawed) original. It's far too long. Far too long and could have lost over an hour. It's very loud, with numerous fights and explosions that very quickly grew tedious. Yes, the filming underwater is impressive, to an…

I never like to be early to the party, so joined the 'Avatar' viewing 13 years after everyone else. Was it worth the wait? Definitely. Balancing their desire to be treated as adulthood with a need for adult warmth, compassion and security, Elle Fanning and Alice Englert…

    The Quiet Girl

    ★★★★★

I haven’t given a film five stars for a while, mainly because, for a film to receive such an accolade, I want it to be genuinely perfect. ‘The Quiet Girl’ might not be perfection, but it sure as hell is as near to it as you can get. Detailing a child moving to a new environment, it is a captivating, beautiful, empathetic and moving film about trauma, love, growing up, honesty and overcoming boundaries. With the beautiful music and wonderful…
