A really interesting movie, though more of a cerebral watch than a pure entertainment film. It take a little while for the viewer to grasp at quite what is going on, with the movie opening on a somewhat confusing cold open, but then it picks up in the middle and final acts. I did not enjoy this movie, to be blunt. The Host suffers from a weak sense of internal logic and a cast of characters whose personal motivations are poorly explored. There are also creative and technical choices that have not aged well, especially the use of early digital cameras and extensive CGI, which looks unconvincing even for 2006, particularly with the creature effects.
