  Potentially the best of the biopic subgenre about fascinating, compelling but terrible people. Patton views himself as a man outside his appointed time, better suited to command a Roman Legion than a modern army. At times, I almost believe him -- he certainly believes it himself, but through the film, the cracks start to show.

  Is he truly stranded too far forward in history to reach the heights he dreams of, or is that just the excuse he tells himself to justify his self-inflicted failures?
