  I’ve only seen two performances in which pure fear is comprehensively acted, Marilyn Burns in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Shelley Duvall in The Shining. Kubrick’s insatiable desire to relay the torment suffered by Wendy accurately, results in one of the greatest ever horror performances. The pace of the movie is unsettling, the storytelling creepy. Masterful acting and the eerie sense of isolation the film conveys makes this a classic worth watching over and over, 40+ years later.

  Nobody does unsettling quite like Haneke. Ultimately, one of his weaker films carried by an impressive central performance.

Following
