Potentially this film’s greatest strength is its greatest weakness at the same time: the runtime. There’s a specific and very cultivated air surrounding this movie. Following the unprecedented success of Parasite, there were many eyes on Bong Joon Ho and his next move. Despite this added pressure, there potentially is no other film that captures the pessimistic joy of his personality. From the first trailers, hearing Pattinson’s goofy voice and the over-the-top Ruffalo performance, real Bong-heads knew that this would be a return to his early 2000’s antics. Jam-packed with governmental critique, akin to that of The Host, unites with a simple but fundamental sci-fi world to make Mickey 17 the most unique and fun film to release so far this year.
