  Fictional tale based on famous historical novel. Bit of homoerotic tension between the leads. Some of battle tactics portrayed, especially early in the film, historically questionable. No recorded facts about what happened to the Ninth. The idea that it was “lost” is wildly speculative. Adequate filmmaking.

  Like a mashup of PRINCESS BRIDE and BARAKA, this visually stunning homage to storytelling is a film like no other. See it on the biggest screen you can.

  The other film this reminds me of is Victor Erice's SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, another film with an amazing child actor in her first role.
