A Complete Unknown 2024
Mangold crafted a beautiful tribute to talent, not just Dylan, but Seeger, Guthrie, Baez, and Cash. And he manages this without actually making Dylan especially likeable, which I appreciate. Chalamet does an admirable job of capturing Dylan's mannerism, both when speaking and singing. And pouting. And treating those around him as tools to get what he selfishly wants. This isn't a criticism. Every performance is exquisite, and I'll be surprised if a few people don't get nominations. I think Mangold and Chalamet especially capture the good, the bad, and the ugly of Dylan, the insanely talented, smug prick that he is.
