Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal are at the top of their acting game in this suspenseful thriller.  Denis Villeneueve’s cinematography is amazing, and the moral grey area of this story is outlined beautifully.

One of the most intense movies I’ve ever seen. The open ended finale left me surprised, and left me to ponder its themes. Javier Bardem gave a hauntingly chilling performance. I feel like I understand the themes of the movie for the most part, but there is still some to digest in there, maybe on a second viewing in the future. Death comes for us all, and is inevitable. Even the villain couldn’t escape “the chance of the death”, as shown by the out of nowhere car crash. I also loved that there was no music in this film. It turned the intensity up to 11.

Wes Anderson doing Wes Anderson things. Enjoyable. Quirky. Beautiful cinematography.

I would list out all of the reasons why I think this movie was terrible, but that would take too long and waste my time. So my review in short: it’s just bad.
