A breathtaking film that has relatively little to do with a gargantuan lizard and more to do with the effect of war and human innovation on mankind, particularly the Japanese citizens, just as the original films attempted to do. This adaptation takes a tactful anti-Japan government position prior to the end of WWII and pro-Japanese people stance that I can’t say I’ve seen anywhere else (but maybe I need to do some more digging). A breath of fresh air from the American adaptations of big monsters hitting each other with no consequence.
