  begins to fall apart at the end as sandra’s character becomes increasingly sidelined and the last twist unfurls with a thud - but a lovely ride! sirk’s stylization of noir is beautiful. i love how he captures silhouettes and choreographs scenes, gesturing toward the ever-present swirl of threats to sandra and the gaps in understanding yet to be closed.

  all we needed to revive earnest romanticism today is two robert pattinsons. mickey 17 is both a whimsical takedown of expendability under capitalism and a sweet celebration of togetherness. each of these elements are fundamental to executing the other, as bong joon ho has always understood. rob is sublime and the emotional heights are near perfect - that alone makes up for the faults and made this a fantastic time at the movies.
