    frothy, elegant eroticism; lubitsch understands that queering romantic conventions is the chicest love affair. long live the pre-code polycule bursting with copious innuendo, tap dancing dialogue, mischievous flouncing. the independence to choose interdependence, to fling yourself onto the dusty chaise over three square meals a day - that’s real love and there’s plenty to be shared. and of course there’s miriam hopkins, my beloved, as the mother of the arts. perfect!!!

    all we needed to revive earnest romanticism today is two robert pattinsons. mickey 17 is both a whimsical takedown of expendability under capitalism and a sweet celebration of togetherness. each of these elements are fundamental to executing the other, as bong joon ho has always understood. rob is sublime and the emotional heights are near perfect - that alone makes up for the faults and made this a fantastic time at the movies.
