  maybe it would have worked in a western setting? maybe it would be better appreciated by a western audience? the only filipino element this film had was a line about celebrating a birthday with pancit for long life and even that felt forced and out of place.

  It's a very timely film that effectively ties a lot of national issues together and is able to ground them in the reality of a child. The film means well but is lacking in its execution and direction. Regardless, it's still worth to watch, especially given the current state of our country right now. Plus, It's a treat to watch the compelling performances of Jansen Magpusao as the titular character and Meryll Soriano as his mother.
