  Frankenstein’s Army 2013

  Felt like it was meant to be a WWII FPS horror video game (lots of BioShock vibes) but ended up an Eli Roth meets Guillermo Del Toro found footage film. Enjoyed this way more than I probably should have but the sets and the creatures were just so cool also the Nazi/Commie brain swap was hysterical. It's totally absurd but this film kind of rules.

  A spin on the slasher genre that could have been good corny fun. Ended up making the death of horny teens sad and feel like a school shooting. I also found it difficult to buy into the world built here, kinda real real then kinda campy, kinda 90s but also kinda current, also the video store angle was just weird. Really fun gory special effects though. Not entirely horrible, mostly unbalanced.

  So much to take away from this. Could feel this movie down to my core. Darkly funny and deeply disturbing before becoming utterly shocking. Meticulously crafted. A beautiful film all around.

  It's soft in its implied violence, comical when it's depicted. It's absurd with its subtle humor and also outrageously overt. A journey that kind of goes nowhere, but also goes right to the heart. There are a bunch of things I love in this film, Tom Waits and swamps are two of them.
