Wicked 2024
Pretty much a direct adaptation of the stage musical, and like the musical, it's carried by two powerhouse performances in Erivo and Grande. Maguire's narrative themes of discrimination and government propaganda are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.
It's a shame that the production design, colour grading and special effects pivoted from the charm of The Wizard of Oz (1939), instead opting for realism. Barbie (2023) proved that these aesthetic choices can still work with audiences today.…
