Beau Is Afraid 2023
This is darkest and grittiest reboot of the 40 Year Old Virgin that no one asked for; but we all, living in this society, sadly deserve. I equally loved and loathed every excutating minute of it. No other film before this has encapsulated the existential dread that is conjured up whenever someone asks "how are you?" quite like this does. It was one of the most masterfully crafted cinematic fever-dream logic guilt-complex character studies I've witnessed on the big screen. Bravo and fuck you Ari Aster, you absolute mad lad.
