i really felt like it held your hand and shoved the messages it was trying to tell you in your face way too much. and the dialogue was just too off despite how good the actors’ performances were.
i was really excited in the first 30 minutes of the movie to get into the politics of the world this space mission left behind or the questions about human cloning/reproduction it brings up, but i feel like the movie tackled way…

“INCREASE THE PEACE”
seeing how strongly this movie holds up as a black coming of age story speaks to singleton’s talent as a director and storyteller. the drama was so candid and real and beautifully tragic. i dont think many movies capture the disenfranchisement of black communities in america quite like this one.
