The retro 50s style robots are so wonderful i am not sure if this film just a design miracle or actually a cracking great yarn. Whatever, I had fun along with the cast.

I love this film which captures life in China from the days of the new republic to the Cultiral revolution. This broad sweep of history is so visually arresting. Not only do we see a complete change in social styles and mores but also the conditions from which the communists ‘liberated’ their people from the feudal life to the effects of policies which had a disastrous effect on the people the story is deeply personal and there is no one…

An unexpected delight. Chinese society relies heavily on the food delivery service and a film showing the trials and tribulations of being a delivery rider is a fascinating insight into the world they inhabit. Important because they are largely regarded as the underclass and highlighting the the poverty of the work but showing their humanity is classic storytelling. I hope it changes how people treat these riders who in order to make a living, actually do risk their lives. A human story told with compassion.

First thing to say is that the veracity of Jackson Yee’s performance is astonishing seconded by the beautiful portrayal of his  grandma by Diana Lin. A cry for dignity, respect and recognition. It is another deeply felt depiction from the gift of Chinese cinema that keeps on giving.
