    A long sincere movie deserves a longer more sincere review.

    In a landscape of new movies defined by irony-poisoned comedy and the tamest white elephant art, I admire that The Brutalist is "trying things," but its gestures toward experimentation do more to draw attention to how ineffectual it ultimately…

    Once many years ago I dreamed Michael Fassbender was the Terminator chasing me. Tilda Swinton was there too but she was the White Witch from the Narnia movie. In the sewer they tried to turn me into Harry Potter but I jumped into the water and melted.
