And finally, we’ve gotten to my pick for our Best Picture Showcase month for 2025’s Movie Club! Honestly struggled choosing between such a wide array of movies, but this time last year I got to watch Some Like It Hot for the first time, and after falling in love with that movie and Jack Lemmon’s performance, I knew The Apartment had to happen.

Like Some Like It Hot, I went into this as blind as possible aside from knowing Lemmon was the star…

Despite all the discourse about this movie being one of “many The Menu lookalikes” I still went in with optimism with the ensemble looking noice and the premise sounding fun enough to warrant a watch. And yeah… it’s fine, but it should be great! In reality, it’s got some tense bits (and one genuinely unsettling sequence, aka the Puppet Show), but as a whole, I just couldn’t get behind this as much as I wanted to.

Opus just never feels nearly as…
