  genuinely very impressive given that this dude was like the third(?) person to make a movie and guys numbers one and two both thought the best possible use of film was "let's record people walking around doing normal stuff." melies saw something more in the art form and it's incredible how quickly he laid essential groundwork for what it's become. It also rocks that within all of that innovation he reuses the "chair disappears right as the protagonist sits down" bit like seven times and never seems to get tired of it. "The Astronomer's Dream" is the best of this collection.
