  It’s funny at times, but overall, I would find the social critique that Östlund offers far more compelling if it were not as manifest. For me, this is precisely what makes someone like Michael Haneke such a gifted filmmaker. Perhaps the increasingly overt social commentary and ludicrous scenarios are what many who deeply admire Östlund’s films find most enthralling. I still think Force Majeure is Östlund’s most mature work because of its ability to subtly engage with these themes.     

  Triangle of Sadness also feels too derivative of White Lotus.

  Maybe I’ll expound when I have more time later this week.

  Damn, I spent an hour or so watching this, and not until the very end did I realize that Kid Rock is the only actor.
