  at its best when the film deals with grief and parenting (enjoyed the through line of him counting to calm himself down and when he cares for the little boy in the community center) instead of spotlighting the murder and its goriness (shots of chickens, knives, and blood), alternating between the past and the present works but should be executed more cleanly and precisely, i am more skeptical on dividing the film into chapters for each family member, interesting how 破。地獄 and 爸爸, as a double feature, touch on parenting of two generations in hong kong

  i don’t think i would say this when i first saw it but i think this has become one of my comfort movies (thanks to hbo max). it’s sad and it’s funny. the screenplay seems so simple but it’s so layered. the lines AND the line deliveries from all four actors are so memorable i could quote any day any time. not to mention, the score! my only problem is the ending where i felt like it just ended and…
