Whenever I'm going through a hard time I always find myself wanting to come back to this movie. No matter how many times I see it i'm consistantly blown away by just how well every part of it works. Hoyte Van Hoytema's cinematography infuses every shot with a hypnotic, often terrifying beauty that's impossible to turn away from. unfortunately i did not vibe with this very much. good atmosphere and great scares but the performances and writing leave a lot to be desired and the pacing is a real drag. i was hoping to get the shit scared out of me tonight but i don't think i'm gonna have any trouble sleeping beyond my usual insomnia. also, personally, if i ever come into possession of a horrifying screaming wooden man, i'm going to be a lot more grateful than these losers
yeah. took way too long to watch this for sure. shows just enough of it's hand to make you believe you know what's coming, then expertly veers into completely new territory. beautiful cinematography, amazing performances, engaging script, etc. this movie kicks ass. already wanna watch it again

the characters were pretty tough to root for and i didn't love the talking head exposition bits they threw in every now and then but this was solid! the entire opening night sequence was excellent. that clown is creepy as hell. spooky!
didn't like paul though. did not care for paul. not a paul fan.
