No idea how this got nominated. Live-laugh-love liberal-American moral-masturbation material that distracts from the country’s actual problems so that viewers can find naive comfort in criticising a few rogue individuals and lionising the perfect or reformed ones. America needs more perfect Muslims! Fewer violently racist ex-Marines!
There’s a moment towards the end where McKinney says it took him two whole months to get all the hate out of his heart, and the doco doesn’t even remotely interrogate how patently absurd…

The Wild Robot 2024
I feel like I’m missing something given the superlatives thrown around in some reviews. Don’t get me wrong, it’s decent – even great in parts, the visuals in particular – but the script is overwrought and the dialogue way overcooked. Not every emotional beat has to be spelled out and plainly discussed by characters. Granted, it was more of a kids movie than I expected, but kids deserve great movies too - our generation certainly got them!
