2001: A Space Odyssey 1968
One viewing of the film down, approximately 4 more to go before I’ll feel ready to talk about it.
I have a distinct memory of my parents trying to show me this movie as a little kid, and I remember not at all believing them when I was told the age of the film. The visuals being as old as they are did not compute with my kid brain, which I’m sure would tickle Kubrick’s ribs to know.

This isn’t a film likely to ever cross my mind or lips again once I’m done writing this review. To me, was a huge missed opportunity to explore and portray various scenarios of ethical dilemmas around human duplication. Scenes with the failed politician turned mission leader and his wife were over the top and not engaging.
The good news is, you didn’t need to see Mickey movies 1-16 in order to follow what’s happening.
Edit to say, after only knowing Toni Collette from Muriel’s Wedding, this was a 180 for her and I enjoyed watching that particular node play out.

107 minutes of Sally Field’s stream-of-consciousness humor with a delightful rural Arizona backdrop, among other adornments. Oh, to play bingo and 5-card with James Garner while you sneak looks at one another and spoon your root beer floats. Wholesome. Just what the small-town widower pharmacist ordered.
(My aunt recommended this to me after she saw it on cable and it did not disappoint. It’s free to watch on YouTube!)
