it’s tough to believe that this is a documentary when every line is so good, everyone is dressed like today’s bushwick, and mike schank keeps grinning like he’s got a little secret

“is that what you wanna do with your life? Suck down peppermint schnapps and try to call Morocco at two in the morning?”

struck by how intentional everything felt. The son’s gigantic ill fitting suit, the cousins face entirely in shadow when he turns a corner, the sequencing of the quarry. Even when it risked leaning into overly obvious, I liked to see how all choices served the whole. And it just looked incredible.

found the scenes of joy to be quite moving as well. the dancing, the biking. life in action made more striking when contrasted to concrete.

(also feeling very strongly very positively about intermissions. made my night at BAM theater feel like an event. intermish 2025)

The original music is so solid it could be carried by almost anything on screen (I have and always will be a Friend of Theater People). The opening number was great! Ariana Grande is funny - who knew! We didn’t need the original Broadway cast though they can go.

Main gripe was that visually it looked too much like harry potter but also half of the sets felt out of place. why so much water but only in one shot.…
