The Watermelon Woman 1996
Unapologetically portraying and presenting black women and the lesbian experience. Using various characters to present the different types of people in the community while normalizing them and making them feel deeply realistic. The fictional character “The Watermelon Woman” and her relationship with the fictional female director “Martha Page” is made up, but it just feels way too real, creating clever parallels between fiction and reality.
