  Rom-com tropes and netflixisms keep it on a short leash, but man, this movie has a heart. Peppered with surprisingly grounded scenes and charming comedic bits (Soph, this is where the ping pong analogy comes from!). Maybe not the best Cyrano retelling out there, but certainly my favorite.

  My qualm is not that the direct-to-DVD sequel was cheap and plasticky - that’s what it should be! Water is wet. My qualm is that this wasn’t direct to DVD, and they made another bajillion dollars from a theatrical release of sequel slop.

  The kids I babysat didn’t shed a single tear, but I spent half of this pretending to wash dishes in the kitchen to hide mine. I didn’t remember it being so consistently devastating!

  It took me a while to pinpoint why this movie feels familiar -  it’s because the dialogue and delivery is SO similar to American Girl Doll movies (but doesn’t come with cool toys). Bad. Every single shot looks like one of those 2015 Game of War mobile ads with Kate Upton
