The Brutalist 2024
I was very hyped for this and it did not disappoint. Its presented in a very straightforward way but you’re slowly being sucked into the world of these characters and their pain and dreams. Personal Shopper 2016
Kinda boring and all over the place and the whole point of the movie, the grief she feels for her brother, is mostly glossed over.

Paris Is Burning 1990
Essential viewing. I love this culture. I love their fierceness and creativity and stupidity and humor. Everyone is trying to build an illusion of importance and find community on this wretched earth and I just love that the director gave everyone the respect to share themselves and what they find meaningful. I see traces of the ball scene to this day everywhere in the films and music I consume and in my personality and friendships.

Nosferatu the Vampyre 1979
This was really cool. Herzog shows dracula in a way that I found very moving. The concept of living forever as a parasite/predator is explored and the entire film has a dramatic, bitter, and tragic mood. This vampire is not sexy and charismatic but lonely and condemned to a philosophical black hole.
Also the lighting is incredible and atmospheric, definitely one of my favorite looking 70s films.
