The Official Hater Club Movie Challenge 2025
Week 12: Studio Ghibli Week (Mar 18–24)

Maybe because I watched it yesterday, but Castle in the Sky seemingly has more in common with Miyazaki's Lupin the Third movie than it does with rest of his Studio Ghibli output. I mean that the movie is much more action heavy and character conflict is much more simplistic, including the very one dimensional villain. As such I feel that Castle benefits more from its action…

    Miller's Crossing

    ★★★★

Miller's Crossing is Coen Brothers' take on gangster and noir movies characteristic of 30s, 40s and 50s. However for my purposes only one part of moment matters, the words of Nicholson’s Colonel:

[...]Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those have to…

    The Wind Rises

    ★½

The Wind Rises is a messy movie with questionable morals. But before I come to the bad stuff, I will say that animation was great in the same way in was in my previous encounters with Miyazaki(Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke).

Even before I saw this movie I knew that this movie could easily fail in the way its representation of Joro, creatorr of Zero. In the movie he is an artist who is obsessed with creating the best plane,…
