Probably the best adaptation of the ultimate revenge story by Dumas, but that's because I've never watched an adaptation I actually liked until now. As a big fan of the book, I tried to judge this film as an independent piece, and it is very good in terms of acting, dialogues and visuals. Nothing beats a good old political drama, especially with the Catholic Church involved. The palaces, the robes, the stunning aesthetics, the intrigues and the clash between progressives, conservatives and reactionaries, all of them with very little regard for the truth or justice. Also - a fantastic acting performance by both Ralph Finnes and Stanley Tucci.
"Parasites" from Aldi. I guess we all need someone to love us like the Brits love class comedies. The grotesque wasn't grotesque enough to be funny, for most of the time, and anyway the plot has more holes than the Manchester United defence these days. And yes, there is *that* scene with Murder on the Dance Floor that exploded on Tiktok. I guess that's something.
Even Marisa Abela's very decent attempt at being this generational talent does not save this film. Bad editing, messy narrative and lack of interesting angles on Amy Winehouse beyond what everybody already knows. Also, probably too kind on her dad. Of you ask me to watch it again I'd say no, no, no.
