This likely would have been a half star higher had I not finished the book (which was much better) yesterday.
Had this been made a decade later, a miniseries would be the perfect medium. A bit too much plot to cram into a single film without excluding enough to make it a less-than-satisfying adaptation. As a standalone work, however, a solid film.
