The Graduate 1967
I really enjoyed the first half, but hated the second half after the daughter character, Elaine was introduced.
Why does the mother character become such a villain? It feels like there is some extra-narrative force moving Dustin Hoffman away from his preverse desire towards sublimation of desire into the figure of the daughter.
Also, as Dustin Hoffman “matures” becomes more psychotic and terrifying.

Sex and the City 2 2010
Now we can see this film in the context of its most recent revival: “And Just Like That…”, a show that takes place in an alternative universe in which the pandemic is already over. This is only briefly established in the very first episode, which of course was filmed during the hight of Covid. The girls exchange awkward greetings. “Can you believe we had to wear those masks?”
This leaves a lot of questions open. Why? What is it about the Sex and the City universe that ended the pandemic so quickly? Maybe can look back to this film to understand what could have changed.
